Borealis - Event Filtering and Purging

Borealis - Event Filtering and Purging

1.0 Introduction

The event filtering option in Borealis allows you to suppress specific event types from appearing in live events and in the transaction reports. For example, by default live events will display all events generated by the system, including non-critical events, such as Request-to-Exit (RTE) events, Remote Temp Unlock and Reader Access Cycle Starting events - generated by Standard NXT controllers.

The Live Events and Transaction Filtering screen provides you with a list of all event types on a single page and an indication of how often each of the event has occurred - this will allow you to quickly and easily determine which event type(s) to suppress and how effectively this will improve system monitoring and simplify the management of transaction reports.

Event purging allows you to permanently delete all events of specific event types from storage. As with event filtering, it is not possible to purge reserved event types - these will always be retained.

Notes:

  • There are certain reserved event types, such as controller online and controller offline and access denied/access granted events - these event types cannot be suppressed or purged.
  • To purge events, the system must have Advanced Permission enabled and the signed-in
operator must also have Live Events - Delete permission enabled for their operator role.

2.0 Live Events and Transaction Filtering

Any event type which is not reserved can be filtered. Once a specific event has been filtered it will no longer appear in live events or in the transaction reports. As an example, there is no cardholder associated with Request-to-Exit (RTE) events, so you may wish to suppress these.

  1. From the Borealis main menu, click on System Settings.

  2. Click on Live Events and Transaction Filtering.

  3. A list of all event types will appear. Next to some of the events types you will see the number of times that event type has occurred and what percentage it represents in terms of all the event types which have been generated.
  4. Scroll down the list and locate the Request to Exit event.
  5. Toggle the Enabled option to disable the event. It will then show as Off.

  6. Click the SAVE FILTERING button in the upper-right.

  7. Any RTE events will no longer appear in live events or in the transaction reports.
  8. The top of the page will now display that 1 selected message type is no longer enabled.

3.0 Event Purging

Event purging allows you to remove all instances of a specific events/or events from storage. Events which are toggled to 'Off' can all be purged at once.

3.1 Enable Advanced Permission

Before you can purge event types you must enable and purchase the Advanced Permission option.

Notes:

  • To enable Advanced Permission you must be logged-in as the System Owner.
  • If you are not the System Owner you should contact the Owner to enable Advanced Permission and process payment.
  • To purge events, you will need to be logged in as the System Owner, or the operator must have Operator Roles >> Live Event - Delete enabled in their operator role settings.
  1. From the main menu, click on Subscription.

  2. The Subscription screen will appear.
  3. Click on the ENABLE ADVANCE PERMISSION button on the right side of the screen.

  4. An additional item will now be added to the shopping cart.
  5. Process the payment for the item in the cart.

3.2 Select Which Event Types to Purge

  1. On the Live Events and Transactions Filtering grid, click on the Percent column - this will
display the event types in ascending order (so the events with the highest percentage will
    be listed at the top):

  2. On the left-side of the screen, toggle to Off the event types that you wish to purge.

  3. The Purge transactions window will appear, notifying you that the selected events will be
permanently deleted and you will be prompted to confirm that you are authorized to remove
all these events from storage. You will see a count of the total number of events to be
deleted and a list of all the specific event types.
  4. Check the box to confirm that you agree to delete.
  5. Click the red PURGE button to go ahead with the event purge.

  6. Once purged, the selected event types will have a count of zero.
  7. Toggle the event type to On if you wish to enable the event type again in live events and
transaction reports. Leave the toggle option set to No if you know longer wish to monitor
or run reports on that event type.
