The following lists the updates which have been included in the August 2025 Borealis release.
New Features
Simulate Credentials
The Simulate Credentials feature is supported on NXT-MSC and Mercury controllers. This feature, once enabled for an operator, will allow the operator to simulate a credential presentation to a reader to determine if that credential can gain access at the reader. It also allows PIN entries to be simulated and keypad user commands, e.g *1234#. This feature is enabled in System Settings and once enabled it is active for a 15 minute time window.
Banner Toast and Error Message Notifications
The Borealis user interface now provides a log of all the banner toast and error notifications which have been generated during the current user session. These can be viewed via the icon highlighted below:
Note: The logged notifications are stored in browser memory only and will disappear if the user logs out or refreshes the web browser.
Moving a Controller to a Different Hub
Added the ability to move a controller to a different hub, providing the original hub and the target hub both reside on the same site. Moving a controller can be done via the controller settings. Once a controller is moved a notification will appear advising you to perform a full sync on the target hub.
QR Code Credential Support
Borealis now supports the enrollment and usage of QR code credential types. When enrolling a QR code credential, a recipient e-mail address must be specified as well as the required credential format. The QR code will be assigned a random card ID and the code can then be printed off and used at a QR credential reader.
Additional Subscription Email Addresses
The system owner can now add additional e-mail contacts to the Borealis subscription section. These e-mail contacts will receive copies of invoice and subscription related e-mails.
Note: Email recipients do not have to be registered as Borealis operators.
Operator Role Levels
Borealis operators are now assigned role levels. The role level determines the other type of operators that the logged-on operator can edit and create. The System Owner is assigned the role level of -1, this means they can edit or add any other operator type. The higher the operator level, the more restrictive the role is. An operator cannot add or edit an operator with a lower role level, for example; an operator with role level 2 cannot add or edit an operator with role level 1 or below. If an operator is assigned multiple operator roles, the lowest role level is used.
Bug Fixes and User Interface Improvements
- Corrected a programming issue where the held-open time for MSC readers was double the time period of what was configured in the reader settings.
- Corrected a situation where readers would continue beeping if the door contact was closed at exactly the same time as the door held-open event. This is resolved by implementing a 1 second reader beeper delay following the door secure event.
- Increased the setup period from 7 days to 30 days - allowing full functionality of a system for a 30-day period. The system will become suspended if the subscription payment is not made within the setup period.
- Added a user notification that the subscription payment frequency will be monthly if the transaction storage model is changed to 'Pay-as-you-go'.
- Enforced the tax exempt setting to be applied to all new systems that are created by a user of a tax exempt organization.
- Added the system tax exempt status to the subscriptions page.
Note: Subscription information is only available to System Owners.
- Corrected an issue where the firmware version was not displaying for NXT Exit readers.
- Removed Anti-Passback settings from Entraguard controller settings as Anti-passback is not supported on this controller type.
- Corrected a display issue where a strike output for an Entraguard controller was not being displayed on the Hardware >> All page.
- Corrected a display issue for PXL controllers where the strike output for reader B was incorrectly displayed as a control point and the linked reader B was also not displayed.
- Corrected a display issue for PXL and Entraguard controllers where the linked reader was not displaying for door contact, RTE and AUX RTE inputs.
- Added an option to NXT-MSC and Mercury reader settings to filter the door change of state transactions. This will filter the door closed message from appearing in live events after the reader has unlocked and the door has opened and then closed.
- Corrected an issue where the credential create dialog window doesn't close from the [X] in the dialog title bar.
Known Issues
It is possible to have a situation where a PXL controller continually displays an update in progress indicator. This can be resolved by going to the controller screen and requesting controller status via the action menu or by accessing the controller settings and clicking the SAVE button - this will initialize a second controller sync and the first one will be cancelled.
