Borealis Release Notes - March 2025

The following document lists the updates that have been included in the March 2025 release of Borealis.

NotesNote: The Site Calendar, Site Lock/Site Unlock and Operator Audit features are controlled by a feature flag to allow us to evaluate and monitor their performance before a wider rollout. To request access to use these features, please contact your integrator or regional sales manager.

Entraguard Controller Support

The March release of Borealis includes support for the Entraguard Titanium, Silver and Platinum controllers. The Entraguard controllers can exist on a site with other Entraguard controllers or they can co-exist on a PXL network. The Entraguard can be added to Borealis as a primary controller (addressed #1) or as a secondary controller connected to a primary Entraguard or primary PXL-500.

The Entraguard does not have a physical reader connected to it but it utilizes a reader port in the Borealis subscription. Tenants can gain access at the Entraguard using their unique, assigned Entraguard ID. Visitors can also call tenants from the Entraguard and then access can be granted by the tenant using their phone handset. Communication to the Entraguard is via Ethernet using the
plug-on LAN-520 module.

Site Calendar

The Site Calendar implements a calendar based on the Site. Site Calendar offers the ability to automatically schedule events that need to occur at a specific time. There are hardware control scheduled events, such as: synchronizing the controller at a specific time, temporarily unlocking a particular reader or multiple readers, and masking door contacts, inputs and outputs. There are also actions that can schedule activation and de-activation of Site Lock and Site Unlock.
The events created in the calendar will contain Subject, Category, Start, and End time.

Site Lock and Site Unlock

The Site Lock and Site Unlock feature is available for all hardware types except for Switch Tech locks. The feature requires the hub and all hardware to be online. It allows you to immediately lock and unlock all doors on a site. In addition to locking all unlocked doors, the Site Lock feature also allows you to put all doors into Lockout or Lockdown mode. Site Lock and Site Unlock can be triggered via buttons in the user interface. Readers can also be configured to not respond to Site Lock/Site lock - except for PXL controllers. PXL primary controller can, however be configured to not respond. The Sites screen will display the buttons and the current Site Lock/Site Unlock status in real-time.

Operator Audits

The Operator Audits features allows you to run reports on administrative actions performed by a logged-in operator. For example, you can use it to find out which operator added or deleted a controller, enrolled or de-activated a cardholder, added an additional operator or unlocked a door from the user interface. You can filter the operator audits to view all actions performed by a specific operator, over a specific time period, view all actions of a specific category - such as related to cardholders or access rights, or all actions performed on a specific hardware item - such as a controller.

Event Filtering and Purging

The event filtering option in Borealis allows you to suppress specific event types from appearing in live events and in the transaction reports. For example, by default live events will display all events generated by the system, including non-critical events, such as Request-to-Exit (RTE) events and Remote Temp Unlock.

The Live Events and Transaction Filtering screen provides you with a list of all event types on a single page and an indication of how often each of the event has occurred. Additionally, all occurrences of certain, selected event types can also be permanently purged from Cloud storage.

API Third Party Integration

The Borealis API integration now allows interoperability with third-party applications. Enhancements have also been done to provide a better user experience and enhanced API security. The updated API integration offers improved user role coordination and uses a dedicated operator role for the API integration. For further information and setup instructions for the API integration, please contact Keri Systems.

Bug Fixes and User Interface Improvements

  1. Corrected an issue where certain reports with a lot of data would be stuck 'in progress' and could not be deleted.
  2. Implemented a change in the user interface where 'Facilities' will only display in Hardware >> All once a controller had been configured for Elevator Control.
  3. Added a notification prompting the operator to assign a facility to an Elevator Controller before performing a controller memory reset.
  4. Updated the notification that appears when a system is in a suspended state to provide better clarification.
  5. On the access rights reader assignment screen, access right reader names are now listed alphabetically, by default.
  6. Corrected the labelling of the onboard RS-485 port for MP 1502/4502/2500 controller types.
  7. Borealis Connect (iOS app) - Corrected an issue where it was not possible to add a controller via QR code scan.
  8. Corrected an issue where it was not possible to scan for and claim an MR62E controller to an MP series Mercury controller.
  9. Corrected an issue where a hub offline incident would generate duplicate offline events in live events.
  10. Corrected an issue with PXL controller editing where it was not possible to edit the default TCP/IP communication port number.

Known Issues

  1. When using Global Lock or Global Unlock on PXL controllers (via the hard-coded, dedicated inputs on the primary PXL (Global Unlock) or the primary's SB-593 (Global Lock), the reader status is incorrect when Global Lock or Global Unlock is active.
  2. If an auto-unlock schedule is assigned to a PXL reader after Site Unlock or Site Unlock has been activated, the schedule will not be immediately active. You should go to the Readers screen, select the reader and then select Timed --> Restore to activate the new schedule.
  3. If an auto-unlock schedule is assigned to a PXL reader the LED will be green after going from Site Unlock to Site Lock. However, the door will lock.
  4. If a new auto-unlock (AUL) schedule is assigned to a PXL reader when the hub is offline, the user interface will prompt a sync. However the sync will not send out the new auto-unlock schedule. The workaround is to un-assign the new schedule from the reader, save the reader settings and then re-assign the new AUL schedule.
