Controller Settings

1.0 Introduction

The following section explains how to modify and use all the settings that are supported by NXT and NXT-MSC controllers when using Borealis. 

2.0 NXT Controller Settings

To access the NXT controller settings:
  1. Go to hardware >> Controllers and all the controllers on the system will be displayed. The controller list will display the controller names, which sites the controllers are added to, the hub that the controller is communicating with, the status of the controller (whether it is online or offline), the controller's MAC address and the controller's programmed IP address.



  2. On the right-side of the screen, click on the Actions drop-down list and select Edit.
  3. The controller Edit window will appear.



    - Description - The controller name
    -     Enabled - Allows you to enable and disable the controller. By default, the controller is enabled. When the controller is disabled it will go offline but will continued to function as normal (for example, cardholders will still be able to gain access at the reader(s).
    - MAC address - the controller's programmed MAC address. This value can be adjusted if you need to replace the controller.
    - IP Address - The controller's programmed IP address. Again, this value can be changed if the controller needs to be replaced - but note: this will not immediately change the IP address programmed in the controller. If you need to change the IP address of an NXT controller you will need to perform a hard reset on the controller and then perform an auto-config.
    -     Download Cardholders Without Access - This option downloads each cardholder to the controller regardless of the cardholder's access rights. Otherwise, only cardholders that have access to a door on this controller are sent.
    - Latitude and Longitude - These settings are currently not in use.

  4. Click the SAVE button to commit any changes.


3.0 NXT-MSC Controller Settings

To access the NXT-MSC controller settings:
  1. Go to hardware >> Controllers and all the controllers on the system will be displayed. The controller list will display the controller names, which sites the controllers are added to, the hub that the controller is communicating with, the status of the controller (whether it is online or offline), the controller's MAC address and the controller's programmed IP address.



  2. On the right-side of the screen, click on the Actions drop-down list and select Edit.
  3. The controller Edit window will appear.



    - Description - The controller name
    -     Enabled - Allows you to enable and disable the controller. By default, the controller is enabled. When the controller is disabled it will go offline but will continued to function as normal (for example, cardholders will still be able to gain access at the reader(s).
    - MAC address - the controller's programmed MAC address. This value can be adjusted if you need to replace the controller.
    - IP Address - The controller's programmed DHCP address. Again, this value should only be adjusted if you are replacing the controller. Changing the IP address will not immediately adjust the IP address on the controller. If the controller is being replaced you should first perform a network scan to find out the DHCP address of the replacement controller.
    - Cardholders Without Access - This option downloads each cardholder to the controller regardless of the cardholder's access rights. Otherwise, only cardholders that have access to a door on this controller are sent.
    - Latitude and Longitude - These settings are currently not in use.
    - Connection Control - By default this is set to Automatic. If it is set to Manual you will be able to manually connect and disconnect the controller.
    - Port - the TCP/IP communication port - by default it is 3001 for the NXT-MSC controller.
    - Password - This option is not currently supported in Borealis.
    - Poll Delay - The delay between communication polls (in milliseconds) - the default value is 5,000.
    - Retry Count - The number of retries before a communication failure is reported - the default value is 5.
    - Timeout Offline - The amount of time (in milliseconds) for the controller to consider itself offline to the hub.
    - Panel Baud Rate - 

  4. Click the SAVE button to commit any changes.
