Borealis Credential Increase to 50,000 Per System

Effective from the November 2023 Borealis release the total number of credentials (per system) has been increased to 50,000. This upper limit applies to all support hardware types (excluding Switch Tech mobile credentials.

The change to the system means that only cardholders with access rights will be downloaded to controllers.

Note: Although the upper credential limit per system is now set to 50,000 the following limits are also imposed:

  1. The upper limit per hub is restricted to 10,000.
  2. The upper limit per controller is restricted to 10,000 (PXL, NXT, NXT-MSC and MSC). This limit applies to unique credentials - so if the same credential number has access to multiple controllers it is still considered by the hub as a single, unique credential.

Sync Service Changes

The sync service will only download credentials with access.  If you wish to change the event for no access from Not in File to Never at this Schedule, then need to create an access group with Never schedule for appropriate readers at that controller.

Access Rights Setup Changes

When assigning access rights to credentials the user interface will display a % value after the access rights name. This percentage indicates the percentage of the controller or hub limit that is in use. For example; if 7,500 credentials have been assigned access rights to a certain controller then 75% of that controller's capacity will be in use... thereby allowing 2,500 more credentials to also be assigned those access rights (or access rights which include that controller).

Note: As previously mentioned... this limit applies to unique credentials - so if the same credential number has access to multiple controllers it is still considered by the hub as a single, unique credential - (so every controller associated with a hub can each potentially have the same database of 10,000 credentials).
