Doors32™ - Creating a Full Backup

Quite simply, all the Doors32 database information is held in a single folder which, for a typical installation (of the latest version), can be found at the following location:

C:\Kerisys\Doors_v5.42\DB

D32 Backup File

This is the only file you will need to restore an entire Doors32 system in the event of a hard-disk failure. Providing, of course, the file has been backed up onto a memory stick or other removable media, such as an external hard-drive.

We have, believe it or not, had situations where customers have placed the backup file onto the desktop or another location on the local disk, only to lose everything when the hard-disk completely fails.

Occasionally, customers may believe it is possible to retrieve the database information from the access control system in the event of not having a backup. This is most definitely not possible. It would be quite a serious loophole in system security if this was to be the case because anyone 'in the know' would be able to connect to a network and retrieve all system information. Unfortunately if your computer completely dies and you do not have a retrievable backup you will have to re-configure the entire system, including re-enrolling all cards.

Therefore... We ALWAYS recommend backing up the database on a regular basis (or at least whenever a major change happens, such as adding a large block of cards).

If you need to restore a system onto a new PC you would simply perform a new installation which will automatically create a new DB folder. You then overwrite that DB folder with the one you have as a backup.

Replace the DB File
