Doors32 Installation on Windows 7

Under the Windows 7 operating systems, when the Doors32 Installation program is run from the Doors32 CD / AutoRun menu the following fault message appears, “Unknown Windows Version. Aborting Installation.”

Doors32 installation on Windows 7 can be done by using one of the following two methods: Compatibility Mode or Virtual Mode.

Note: For both installation modes you must be logged on with administrative privileges.

Compatibility Mode Installation

  1. Open the Doors32 CD and right click on the “Setup” file.
  2. Select “Properties.”
  3. Click the “Compatibility” tab.
  4. Under “Compatibility Mode,” select the checkbox for “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and select the “Windows XP(Service Pack3)” option.

Windows 7 Compatibility Mode

Under “Privilege Level,” select the checkbox “Run this program as an administrator.”

The program will now install by double clicking the Doors32 Setup.exe file.

Notes for Compatibility Mode Installation:

  • This method allows program installation in both 64- and 32- bit versions of Windows 7.
  • In the 32-bit Windows 7 all Doors32 functions work properly.
  • In the 64-bit Windows 7 Doors32 functioned normally with the exception of the “Monitor” function. Monitoring will not display any live data, but you can still collect events and generate reports. Virtual Mode Installation (see below) is required for all functions to work in 64-bit operating systems

Virtual Mode Installation

  1. Download “Win XP Mode” and Windows “Virtual PC” from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx.
  2. Select the system and language and download and install both programs.
  3. Launch “Win XP Mode” from “Programs.”
  4. Install Doors32 normally.

Notes for Virtual Mode Installation:

  • Only PCs with CPUs that have hardware virtualization capability may run virtual Win XP.
  • Hardware virtualization must be enabled in the PC’s BIOS.
  • Doors32 can not communicate through the serial port in virtual XP. You have two communication options:
    - Use a LAN-520 unit (which bypasses the serial port).
    - Use a USB to serial adapter (Keri recommends using the plug-on Keri Comms module). The USB to serial adapter driver must be installed in the virtual XP shell and the device must be enabled via a drop down menu at the top of the the virtual XP shell. Doors32 is then able to use serial communication
