First Person In

First Person In

1.0 Introduction

First Person In (FPI) allows you to determine if a door should automatically open at the automatic unlock time, or if it should remain closed until a person has presented a card and entered the facility. The default setting is for FPI to be disabled.

FPI can be used wherever employees may be delayed in arriving at a secured site (perhaps due to inclement weather). FPI ensures that at least one access-granted employee is in the building before the automatic unlock time.

Note: First Person In 'look-up times' are not currently supported in Borealis when using NXT-MSC controller types. When using NXT-MSC controllers you can enable First Person In and this will ensure the door does not auto-unlock (at or after the start time), until there has been an access grant from a cardholder.

2.0 Enable First Person In

The following steps explain how to set a reader with an auto-unlock schedule and then how to enable the First Person In option on an NXT controller.
  1. In Borealis, go to Hardware >> Readers.
  2. Place a checkmark against the reader that you wish to edit.
  3. Use the Actions drop-down list on the right and select Edit.

  4. The reader edit window will appear.
  5. Use the Auto Unlock Schedule drop-down list and select a valid AUL schedule.
  6. When you have assigned an auto-unlock schedule you will see an additional 'First Person In' checkbox. Place a checkmark in this check box.
  7. Additionally, there is also a drop-down list named 'First Person in Time. The first person in times function as follows:

    - None - The None setting configures the reader to auto-unlock at the defined start 1 time of the AUL schedule.
    - Immediate
    - The Immediate
value simply enables FPI at the beginning of the auto unlock time. The door will not automatically open but will stay open when someone gets access granted at that door. The door will then start to follow its Auto Unlock/Lock schedule.

    - Minute15 - The Minute15 setting will configure the door to unlock at the AUL start time ONLY if a cardholder has gained access within 15 minutes of the AUL start time.
    - Minute30 - The Minute30 setting will configure the door to unlock at the AUL start time ONLY if a cardholder has gained access within 30 minutes of the AUL start time.
    - Minute45 - The Minute45 setting will configure the door to unlock at the AUL start time ONLY if a cardholder has gained access within 45 minutes of the AUL start time.
    - Minute60 - The Minute60 setting will configure the door to unlock at the AUL start time ONLY if a cardholder has gained access within 60 minutes of the AUL start time.
    - Minute120 - The Minute120 setting will configure the door to unlock at the AUL start time ONLY if a cardholder has gained access within 120 minutes of the AUL start time.
    - Minute180 - The Minute180 setting will configure the door to unlock at the AUL start time ONLY if a cardholder has gained access within 180 minutes of the AUL start time.

For example, if a door is configured with an AUL schedule to auto-unlock the door at 07:00am and a cardholder gains access 10 minutes before the door is scheduled to automatically open, the door will unlock and allow that employee access (and will then automatically unlock at the scheduled unlock time). This allows for an employee to arrive to work early and will ensure that a cardholder is on-site when the door auto-unlocks. If a cardholder has not gained access at the door within 15 minutes of the initial unlock time then the door will only auto-unlock after the start time once a cardholder has gained access. In this example; after 07:00am.

  8. Click the SAVE button to save the reader settings.

Notes:
  1. When considering applying FPI to a door, remember the unlock/lock time schedule associated with the door may have more than one start/end time period (up to a maximum of the limit supported by the hardware type). If FPI is applied to a door, it applies to each start/end time period defined within the time schedule.
  2. If the auto unlock/lock time schedule has been suspended (see "Suspend/Restore Auto Unlock/Lock Schedules) First Person In is disabled.
  3. When FPI is enabled, if a cardholder has not gained access within the 'look-up-time' then the door will not auto-unlock (until a cardholder has gained access AFTER the AUL start time) - This ensures the door will not auto-unlock until there is a cardholder on site. When a cardholder subsequently gains access at the reader AFTER the start time the reader will double-beep and the reader will THEN auto-unlock.
