Temporarily Disable Cardholder Access

Temporarily Disable Cardholder Access

1.0 Introduction

To provide added flexibility, there are several methods available in Doors.NET for disabling card access or for preventing doors from automatically unlocking - such as for extended periods of un-occupancy or limited occupancy at a facility.

2.0 Disabling a Time Schedule Note

The ALWAYS time schedule cannot be edited and therefore will not affect any cardholders that are assigned the 'Total Access' access group. Disabling a time schedule will prevent any door (that is assigned that schedule as an auto-unlock schedule), from automatically unlocking. It will also prevent access to any door in the cardholders access group which is assigned that schedule.
  1. From within Doors.NET go to Home >> Time Schedules.
  2. Select the time schedule that you wish to disable.
  3. The schedule properties will appear on the right.
  4. Locate the Enable section and set this to No (then save).

5. The schedule will now be disabled. To re-enable, simply set this to Yes then save again.

3.0 Create and Apply a Holiday

Another method of disabling a time schedule is by applying a holiday. Once applied, the time schedule will be inactive for all the days that are selected in the holiday. The following example explains how to setup a two week holiday and then how to enable the holiday on the time schedule.

2.1 Create a New Holiday

  1. From within Doors.NET go to Home >> Holidays.

  2. Click the ADD icon.
  3. Enter a description for the new holiday.
  4. Set the holiday to be enabled.
  5. Set the holiday to a type - by default a new holiday is set to 'Type1'. The purpose of types allows you to configure a time schedule to be active on certain holidays but not on others. The number of supported holiday types is also determined by the controller type being used.

  6. Click on the day for when the holiday will begin - then hold down the key and click on the last day of the holiday. You will see a message prompting you to confirm the selected days for the holiday. Verify that the holiday dates are correct, then click YES.

  7. Click one of the save icons in the upper-left corner of the client.

2.2 Assign the Holiday

Next, the holiday will need to be assigned to any time schedule that you wish to disable during the defined holiday period.
  1. Go to Home >> Time Schedules.
  2. Double-click the time schedule to be temporarily disabled.
  3. Click on the time interval.
  4. The interval properties will be on the right.
  5. Scroll down the properties and locate: 'Active on Holiday'. For example, leave Type 1 set to No - this means the schedule will NOT be active on any day that is selected for a Type 1 holiday.

  6. Then save the schedule settings.
  7. During the holiday dates the schedule will now be inactive. The will prevent doors from automatically unlocking (if the schedule is used as an auto-unlock schedule) or card access will be prevented if the schedule is selected for the door in the cardholder's access group.
Note: A time schedule may have multiple time intervals so you may need to verify for each interval that the holiday is set to No.

3.0 Holiday Limitations (per Hardware Type)

The maximum number of days that can be used in holidays is determined by which controller type is being used. There is also a maximum supported number of holiday types. When using multiple, concurrent different hardware platforms, the software will limit holiday schedules to the lowest value of controller type being used.

* Total number that can be applied across all Holiday Schedules.

Note: These values are correct when using Doors.NET Standard Edition. If using Doors.NET Professional, there are 12 intervals per schedule per MSC Gateway. The limit for holiday types is still 8.

4.0 Disabling a Reader

You can also disable a reader, this will prevent all card access at that reader and the Request-to-exit input will also not function. There will also be no live events in the software or buffered at the controller when access is attempted at the door.

To disable a door:
  1. Go to Setup >> Hardware Setup.
  2. The Doors tab is the first tab displayed and will have a list of all doors on the system.
  3. Select the door that you wish to disable.
  4. The door properties will be on the right.
  5. Ensure Advanced View is enabled for the reader properties. Your system may require you to enable Advanced View by going to View >> Advanced View and then entering the password Keri10.

  6. Ensure Enabled is set to No.
  7. Save the reader settings and the reader is now disabled.

Setting a Reader to Lockout or Lockdown

Rather than completely disabling a reader, you can instead set it to lockout or lockdown:

IMPORTANT NOTE: For this application note it is not recommended to set doors to Lockout or Lockdown when using the PXL controller type.
  1. Lockout - All doors are immediately locked, authorized cards no longer work, but egress is still permitted.

  2. Lockdown - All doors lock, cards no longer gain access, and egress is not allowed except where a mechanical exit device such as a crash bar exists.
Lockout or lockdown can be set to any reader by selecting the reader from the doors status grid or from the hardware tree. Once the reader has been selected you can then right-click the reader and select: Mode >> Lockout/Lockdown.

Select Lockout
Or, while the door is selected, you can use the appropriate icon located on the ribbon bar:
Lockout Ribbon Icon

Note: When using NXT Mercury-Powered or Real Mercury controllers, you should also set the default online mode (this will ensure the door remains in the lockout or lockdown state if the controller loses power. This setting is 'Modes' in the reader properties.
