MR16OUT Module Setup
1.0 Introduction
Borealis supports the use of Series 2 MR16OUT modules as well as the new Series 3 enhanced modules - which offer an improved processor, increased memory plus an embedded crypto memory chip that provides a secured layer of encryption to onboard sensitive data.
The MR16OUT module can be used for a variety of applications, such as controlling heating/cooling, lighting and controlling doors that do not have access control. You can also use the I/O linkage functionality to control outputs from dedicated general purpose inputs.
3.0 Configure the RS-485 Address and Baud Rate
The S1 switch on the MR16OUT module is used to set the RS-485 address and the controller's baud rate. The first MR16 module that you add to the bus, by default, will be configured in the software as address 0 and the default baud rate is set to 38,400bps.
The S1 switch should have #6 and #7 in the ON position and all other switches are in the OFF position. This configures the controller as address 0 and the baud rate will be 38,400.
Use the S1 switch to change the RS-485 address (switches 1-5) or the baud rate (switches 6 and 7).
Because address 0 is a valid address on the 485 network, the second address will be address 1 (#1 in the ON position), the third module will be address 2 (with switch #2 in the ON position) - as highlighted in the following image.
The comm address will automatically be set in the software based on the following rules:
- The first module to be added to the controller's bus will be configured in the software as address 0. The second module added will be address 1, and so on.
- Each of the controller buses can have up to 32 MR16 modules.
- If you add modules to a different bus, again, the first module will be address 0 (because it will be a second, completely separate RS-485 network).
4.0 Add the MR16OUT Module in Borealis
- From the Borealis main menu, go to Hardware >> All.
- Expand the controller located on the hardware tree.
- Select the TB port that the module is connected to.
Note: Some controllers have 2 x TB ports (TB2 and TB3), whereas other controllers only have 1 x TB port (TB3). - You will see the port properties located on the right-side of the screen.
- Click the ADD PANEL button.
- Select MR16OUT from the drop-down list.
- Click the SAVE button.
- Expand the controller port and then select the new module.
- The MR16OUT properties will displayed on the right.
- If the module is addressed correctly it should show as online.
