PXL - Card + PIN

PXL - Card + PIN

1.0 Introduction

Card + PIN is an advanced feature that is supported on NXT, NXT-MSC and PXL controller types (when using a combination keypad and prox reader, such as the P-640H). The feature allows you to set the keypad to card + pin mode so that the cardholder must enter a PIN after they have presented a valid card. The card + PIN mode can be programmed to be operational only at certain times of day, or it can be set to this mode via a simple right-click command from the software.

The following steps explain how to setup Card + PIN using the PXL-500 controller type.

Note: When using the PXL controllers the maximum number of PIN digits you can use is 5.

2.0 Available Options

  1. Dual Verification Time Schedule - The Dual Verification time schedule is assigned in the reader settings and determines when Card + PIN will be active. For example, if the assigned Dual Verification Schedule is Always then the keypad will always require a valid card read followed by the cardholder's PIN.
  2. PIN Timeout (in Seconds) - The amount of time between the card presentation and the PIN being entered at the keypad (in seconds). If the PIN is not entered within this time period it will result in Access Denied - PIN Timeout and this event will appear in live events.
  3. Lockout Duration (in Seconds) - The amount of time that the reader will be locked out for a cardholder that has consecutively entered the wrong PIN six times. For example, if the lockout duration is set to 120 seconds... if a valid card is presented and then the wrong PIN is entered 6 times the keypad will be locked out for that cardholder for a duration of 120 seconds. Once this time period has passed the cardholder will be able to gain access with their valid credential followed by their valid PIN.
