PXL - Global Unlock

PXL - Global Unlock

1.0 Introduction

This section explains how to enable the standard implementation of the Global Unlock feature using the dedicated Global Unlock input on a Primary PXL controller (controller addressed #1).

The dedicated Global Unlock input is physically located between pins 5 and 6 of TB4 on the PXL controller. This input can alternatively be designated as an Auxiliary RTE input, but this function is automatically disabled when Global Unlock is enabled.

The Global Unlock input is a normally-open input that is active when closed. When the input activates it automatically unlocks all online and functioning doors on the PXL network; it does NOT allow you to select certain doors to not respond to the global unlock command. Since this feature is hardware controlled it is not dependent on the PC in any way.

Notes:

  • If a Secondary controller is offline when a Global Unlock or Global Lock command is issued, the Secondary controller has missed the unlock/lock command and will not change state when the Secondary controller comes back on line.

2.0 Enable Global Unlock in Borealis

This section assumes you have already followed the steps to get the primary PXL controller online.

  1. From the main menu on the left, click on Hardware >> Controllers.
  2. Locate the primary controller (it will have an IP address assigned).
  3. Use the controller's Action drop-down menu (located on the right side of the screen).
  4. Select Edit.

    PXL Select Edit

  5. The primary controller edit form will appear.
  6. Scroll down the settings until you locate the Global Unlock option.
  7. Place a check mark against the option and from the Global Unlock Type menu, select Unlock All Doors.

    Global Unlock Enable

  8. Click the SAVE button to save the setting.

3.0 Test the Global Unlock Functionality

Note: Once Global Unlock has been enabled on the controller, the controller will be updated automatically. A network update event will appear in live events.

  1. Go to the primary controller (the controller addressed #1).
  2. Short the input between pins 5 and 6 of the TB4 connector (see diagram in the introduction).
  3. As soon as the input goes active all doors for all online PXL controllers will immediately unlock.
  4. All doors will remain unlocked while the input is active (closed).
  5. All doors will go back to their normal operating mode when the input is inactive (open).

Note: The Global Unlock feature is NOT Fire Marshall approved. Check your local codes for fire safety management.

Note: Global Unlock takes precedence over ALL lock or unlock commands. Any attempt to restore an Auto Unlock/Lock time schedule while the Global Unlock feature is active will be ignored by the Primary controller.
