BioSync Fingerprint Reader User Enrollment

BioSync Fingerprint Reader User Enrollment

1.0 Introduction

Once BioSync users have been enrolled using the BioManager software they are automatically uploaded to the BioSync fingerprint readers along with the credential number that's associated with the user. Both the user's credential and the user's fingerprint are associated with the same unique credential number - so that same credential number is used regardless of whether the reader is set to Fingerprint-only, Card OR Finger or Card AND Finger. This entry mode setting is also configured using the BioManager software (in the reader properties):

In addition, if a user has multiple fingerprints enrolled, the same unique Wiegand card number will be outputted by the reader. There is not a separate number associated with the fingerprint. The unique credential number is what needs to be enrolled into the Borealis software. The enrollment procedure varies slightly depending on what type of credentials are being enrolled (Keri NXT, HID or MIFARE).

In summary: once the user, fingerprint and credential have been enrolled using BioManager they are sent to the BioSync readers. Enrollment must then also be performed to match the user data that exists on the BioSync reader(s). Once enrollment is complete (in Borealis), the BioSync readers are then added to access rights and the access rights are then assigned to the enrolled cardholders. The cardholders will then be able to gain access at the BioSync readers.

When enrolling a 26-bit Wiegand HID credential, you enter the same data that was entered into the BioManager software during user enrollment. However there are some slight differences with the terminology - as highlighted in the image and descriptions below:

  1. User Code - This is the imprint (the number that is printed on the credential).
  2. Site Code - This is referred to as the Facility Code in Borealis (note: Keri NXT and MIFARE credentials do not use a facility code) - therefore the Site Code field in BioManager will not be required when using these credential types.
  3. User ID (Card numbers) - This is referred to as the 'Cardnumber' in Borealis. It is the unique Wiegand card number that is associated with the cardholder/user. This number will also be generated in Borealis during the enrollment.

Notes:
- When the BioSync reader is configured for Card AND Fingerprint the user should present their card first and then place their finger onto the sensor. The finger should not be presented before the credential.
- This document assumes that the BioSync reader has been connected to the controller and the controller is online in Borealis.
- Refer to section 6.0 of the BioManager User Guide for enrolling credentials and fingerprints instructions (using the BioManager software):

2.0 Enroll a 26-Bit Wiegand Credential User

The following steps explain how to enroll a user which uses a 26-bit Wiegand credential (for example; a HID 125KHz Prox Card II). Supported BioSync models include the KBF-2PR and the B100-PR. The reader also needs to be configured for the correct credential type (using a dip-switch located on the back of the reader). The following steps assume the user has already been enrolled into the BioManager software.

  1. Open the BioManager software and click on Users.

  2. The users section will open.
  3. A list of enrolled users will appear on the left.
  4. Click on the user record you wish to open or search for the record via the Name field.
  5. When the record opens, the credential details will be displayed at the top of the screen.
  6. Make a note of the User code (Imprint) and the Site code (Facility Code). You don't need to note down the User ID as this will be automatically created in Borealis. However, you may wish to refer back to it once Borealis enrollment is complete (to verify that the Cardnumber in Borealis exactly matches the User ID in BioManager).

  7. Go to the Borealis user interface (keri.aetheros.net)
  8. Log into Borealis with your registered user name and password.
  9. From the main menu on the left, click on Cardholders.

  10. In the upper-right, click the CREATE button.
  11. Enter the cardholder's first name and last name.
  12. Select Never Expire or set an activation date and expiration date if the cardholder will be temporary.
  13. Click Save & Next.

  14. The new cardholder name will be preselected.
  15. From the card format drop-down list, select '26-Bit Wiegand H10301.
  16. Enter the credential's imprint (user code in BioManager).
  17. Enter the credentials facility code (site code in BioManager).
  18. Set the card status to active.

  19. Click Save & Next.
  20. Assign an access right to the cardholder or leave it set to None if you haven't yet added the BioSync reader(s) to access groups.
  21. Click SAVE to complete the cardholder enrollment.
  22. Click on Credentials from the main menu on the left.

  23. The new credential will be displayed at the top of the list.
  24. The credential record should be displaying the unique cardnumber.

  25. This number should exactly match the enrolled User ID (cardnumber) in the BioManager software.

2.0 Enroll a Keri NXT Credential User

  1. Return to the BioManager client.
  2. Click on Users (in the lower-left pane).

  3. The users section will open.
  4. Open a user record or search for the record via the Name field.
  5. When the record opens, the credential details will be displayed at the top of the screen.
  6. Make a note of the User ID (Cardnumber) - you will NOT need the Site code or User code.

  7. Log in to Borealis (at keri.aetheros.net).
  8. From the main menu on the left, click on Cardholders.

  9. In the upper-right, click the CREATE button.
  10. Enter the cardholder's first name and last name.
  11. Select Never Expire or set an activation date and expiration date if the cardholder will be temporary.
  12. Click Save & Next.
  13. The new cardholder name will be preselected.
  14. From the card format drop-down list, select Keri NXT.
  15. In the Cardnumber field enter the User ID (Cardnumber) that you noted down from the BioManager user record.
  16. Set the status to Active.
  17. Click the Save & Next button.

  18. Assign an access right to the cardholder or leave it set to None if you haven't yet added the BioSync reader(s) to access groups.
  19. Click SAVE to complete the cardholder enrollment.
  20. Click on Credentials from the main menu on the left.
  21. The new credential will appear at the top of the list of credentials. The NXT Cardnumber should match the User ID (Cardnumber in BioManager).

Note: For Keri NXT credentials the Imprint will be the same as the Cardnumber.

  22. The NXT credential is now successfully enrolled in Borealis.

3.0 Enroll a 32-bit Mifare Credential User

When enrolling a 32-bit Mifare credentials into the BioManager software the unique Mifare cardnumber is likely to be unknown - so there are two options:
  1. Put the BioSync reader into Card OR Finger mode and then present the credential to the reader which is closest to the host PC. If the reader is connected to a controller and the controller is online to Borealis you will see the Mifare cardnumber appear in live events.
  2. The other easier option is to use a 32-bit Mifare (CSN) compatible USB enrollment reader.
- Full Bio Manager enrolment details can be found in section 6.0 of the BioManager User Guide.

Notes:
- The following section assumes the users and 32-bit Mifare credentials have already been enrolled into BioManager.
Full Bio Manager enrolment details can be found in section 6.0 of the BioManager User Guide.
- Before enrolling the 32-bit Mifare credentials into Borealis you will need to click on Credential Formats (from the main menu). Click the ADD button in the upper-right then select the 'MIFARE Classic 32-bit (CSN)' format. Then SAVE.

You can click the EDIT button and then copy the unique card number.

  7. Log in to Borealis (at keri.aetheros.net)
  14. From the card format drop-down list, select MIFARE Classic 32-bit (CSN).
  15. Enter or paste the Mifare card number into the Cardnumber field.
  16. The Imprint field can be left blank.
  17. Set the status to Active.

  18. Click the Save & Next button.

4.0 Create Access Rights

The next step explains how to add the BioSync reader to access rights.
  1. From the main menu on the left click on Access Rights.
  2. Click the CREATE button on the right.
  3. Enter a new description for the new access right.
  4. Select the site that the access right will apply to.

  5. Click NEXT.
  6. Select the BioSync reader (and any other readers to be added to the access right). Or click the TOGGLE button (to select all readers).

    Note:
Clicking the toggle button a second time will de-select all readers.

  7. Click NEXT.
  8. Use the Apply to All drop-down list to select a time schedule and then apply that schedule to all readers. Or you can select a specific time schedule to apply to readers individually.

  9. Click SAVE to create the new access rights.

5.0 Assign Access Rights

Now that the access rights have been created (and include the fingerprint reader) you are ready to assign the access rights to a credential.
  1. Click Credentials from the main menu on the left.
  2. Place a check mark against one of the credentials.
  3. Click the EDIT ACCESS RIGHTS button.

  4. From the drop-down list select the access rights to assign to the credential.
  5. Click the SAVE button.

  6. The credential will now be automatically sent out to the controller network and within a few seconds it will be possible to gain access at the BioSync Reader.

Note: To change the BioSync Entry Mode (Finger-only, Card OR Finger or Card AND Finger) this is done via the reader properties in BioManager (not in Borealis).
