Entraguard Controller Setup in Borealis

Entraguard Controller Setup in Borealis

1.0 Introduction

The following document explains how to setup an Entraguard controller in Borealis. Once a PXL (and Entraguard) hub has been claimed and auto-updated, you can then add an Entraguard primary controller or you can add the Entraguard as a secondary controller on a PXL network (see section 6.0). An Entraguard primary is the first controller on the network (and is address #1).

Note: Once a hub has been claimed to a PXL site (and then auto-updated), it will support both PXL and Entraguard controllers.

There are two methods for adding an Entraguard primary controller - you can either scan for the LAN-520 device (see section 5.0), which is the network device that is connected to the controller - or, you can manually add the primary Entraguard controller (if you know the IP address that's assigned to the LAN-520 module).

Notes:

  • Communication to the Entraguard primary controller MUST be via Ethernet (using a LAN-520 module which connects to the J7 port of the primary controller).
  • Jumpers J11, J19 and J20 MUST be removed from the PCB (this configures the controller to communicate via Ethernet).
  • Modem or Serial communication to an Entraguard or PXL controller is NOT supported.
  • Communication to an Entraguard secondary controller is via an RS-485 network.
  • Borealis supports the Silver, Titanium and Platinum telephone entry controllers. It can work as a single unit or networked to other additional Entraguard or PXL controllers.
  • The additional Entraguard Tenant Guide also explains how to use an Entraguard PIN, accepting a call (if you are a tenant) and a list of telephone command codes and how to use them.

Note: Please refer to the separate Entraguard installation guide for connector pin-outs and wiring instructions:

The following sections explain how to initially setup the controller for first-time use and then how to add the Entraguard as either a primary or secondary controller. The document then goes on to explain how to configure Entraguard controller settings.

2.0 Clearing the Entraguard Controller's Memory

The first step is to clear the memory on the controller to remove any data that may exist from the
manufacturing process or the primary controller site information from a Doors32 or Doors.NET
system.

  1. Begin with the Entraguard powered-down.
  2. Hold the Reset Button (SW1) down and apply power to the controller.
  3. After the controller beeps once, release the SW1 button.
  4. The LCD display on the front panel will show the Reset Menu (see below).

    EntraGuard Titanium Display

  5. Press 2 to clear memory.
  6. You will see the message: "ERASE ALL USER DATA? PRESS 1 for YES, PRESS 2 for NO.
  7. Press 1 to confirm the memory clearance.

  8. The memory will then be cleared and the LCD display will show UNIT 001 IS NOT INITIALIZED
alternating with the message KERI SYSTEMS ENTRAGUARD UNIT 001.

Note: If no option is selected within 60 seconds, the unit will time out and go directly to the default message. To reach the reset menu option again, the unit must be powered-up again with the SW1 button held down.

3.0 Set the Unit Address

By default, the Entraguard controller is addressed as number one (configuring the controller as a primary controller). If the Entraguard controller will be a secondary controller, then the Entraguard unit's address will need to be changed.

  1. Hold the Reset Button (SW1) down and apply power to the controller.
  2. After the controller beeps once, release the SW1 button.
  3. The LCD display on the front panel will display the Reset Menu.
  4. Press 1 to set the unit's required address. For example, if the unit address needs to be #5 enter 005 using the keypad and then press the * key to confirm the new address.
  5. The unit will now be set to the new secondary controller address.

4.0 Enable Entraguard and Configure Entraguard
Site Settings

To use Entraguard controllers in Borealis you will need to enable Entraguard controllers on the site.
This can be done when you initially setup the site or it can be enabled on an existing PXL site.

4.1 Enable Entraguard Controllers

  1. From the Borealis main menu, click on Hardware >> Sites.
  2. Use the site's Action drop-down menu located on the right side of the screen and select Edit.

  3. Place a check mark in the option Enable Entraguard Controllers.

  4. Additional Entraguard settings will now be displayed on screen.

4.2 Configure Entraguard Site Settings

The following Entraguard settings will apply to any Entraguard controller added to this site.

  • Entraguard PIN Digits (default is 5) - The number of User PIN Digits for the Entraguards.
The user PIN is entered on the Entraguard keypad by a tenant to gain access. For example,
the tenant enters * followed by 12958.

  • Entraguard Directory Code Digits (default is 5) - The number of Directory Code Digits for the EntraGuard. The directory code is a unit slot number where the user is located in the Entraguard directory. For example, when using the default of 5 digits, a directory code would be entered into the user record as '00001' or '00002'. The Directory Code allows a visitor to directly dial a tenant without having to scroll through the directory.

Note: The Directory Code will not unlock the door.

  • Show Entraguard PINs in Live Events and Transactions Report - When enabled, the Entraguard user PINs are displayed in live events (such as for access granted events). The PINs will also be displayed within transaction reports.

Save the site settings when you have configured the Entraguard site settings.

Note: If an operator changes either Entraguard PIN Digits or Entraguard Directory Code Digits, then a Full Sync must be performed on every Entraguard controller in the Borealis Site. This is very important to ensure all Entraguards have been updated with the up-to-date controller settings.

5.0 Scan for the Entraguard Primary Controller

Once the PXL/Entraguard-configured hub has been claimed and updated, you can then add an Entraguard primary controller. A Entraguard primary is the first controller on the network (and is address #1). There are two methods for adding an Entraguard primary controller - you can either scan for the LAN-520 device (which is the network device that's connected to the controller) - or, you can manually add the primary PXL controller (if you know the IP address that's assigned to the LAN-520 module. The MAC address of the LAN-520 can be found printed on the module:

The following steps explain how to add the primary controller via the scan method.

  1. From Borealis, click on Hubs from the main menu on the left.

    Click on hubs

  2. The hub (or multiple hubs) will appear.
  3. Locate the Actions drop-down menu, located on the right and select Scan. Or click the SCAN
    button.

    Actions - Scan

  4. Borealis will then scan the network for LAN-520 devices.
  5. After a few seconds the detected primary controller(s) will be displayed.

Note: Multiple devices may be displayed (if you have multiple primary controllers).

    Primary Controllers Found

  6. Place a check mark in the box to the left of the description field.
  7. Enter a name for the primary controller.
  8. Set the correct model for the controller (Important Note: by default, the controller model is
automatically set as PXL500). Select the correct Entraguard controller model from the drop-down list.

    Supported Entraguard controller models are:

    Supported Entraguards

    - EG250 Entraguard Titanium (supports 250 Entraguard Users)

  9. Click the CLAIM button to add the primary Entraguard to the system.
  10. Near the top of the screen you will see a notification that the controller is claimed to the hub.

    EG claimed notification

  11. Go to Hardware >> Controllers and the controller will be added and will show as online.

    EG Primary Online

  12. In the Description column, after the controller name, you will see an orange notification indicator. Hover your cursor over the indicator and you will see that the controller requires a full sync.

    Full Sync required

  13. To perform the initial full sync, use the controllers Action drop-down menu located on the right and select Full Sync.

  14. The full sync is complete when you see an Update Completed event in live events.

    Update_Completed

6.0 Scan for Entraguard Secondary Controllers

To add Entraguard units as secondary controllers (not addressed #1) you first need to add the primary
controller and when that is online and synced you can then scan for the secondary controllers. The scan for secondary controllers will detect all PXL and Entraguard controllers on the RS-485 network.

Note: It is also possible to manually add secondary Entraguard controllers. Manual add is done via the primary controller's Action menu and then selecting Add Secondary.

  1. Go to Hardware >> Controllers to display the controllers screen.
  2. Ensure the primary controller is online and has received its initial sync (the primary controller can be an Entraguard or a PXL).
  3. Use the primary controller's Action menu and select Scan for Secondary.

  4. Borealis will then use the primary controller to scan the local RS-485 network for additional,
secondary controllers. Please wait up to 2 minutes as the primary controller will be scanning
for all secondary PXL and Entraguard controllers.

  5. Once all the controllers have been detected they will be displayed in a list.
  6. The detected Entraguard controller will have the controller model that begins 'EG'
    (as highlighted).

  7. Place a check mark against each of the controllers you will be adding.
  8. Then enter a description for the controllers.

  9. Once all detected controllers have been selected and named, click on the CLAIM button.
  10. The secondary controllers will be added to the Controllers screen and within a few seconds they should all be online.
  11. Next to each of the controller names you will see a notification. This notification appears whenever a controller needs to be synced.

  12. All controllers can be synced via the primary controller.
  13. Use the primary controller's Action menu and select Full Sync.

  14. Place a check mark in Full Update (all system components will be selected automatically).
  15. Then also place a check mark in the option to Include Secondary PXLs.

  16. Click the CONFIRM button.
  17. The controllers will each display an 'in progress' icon next to the controller name.

  18. Once these icons disappear all controllers will be synced and will be ready for use.

Note: It is also recommended that you monitor the progress of a full sync via live events. In live events you will see multiple update in progress events and finally, an update completed event. For large cardholder systems a Full Sync can take a significant amount of time to complete.

7.0 Entraguard Controller Settings

Once the Entraguard controller has been added and the initial sync has been performed, you can then configure the settings on the controller.

  1. From the main menu, click on Hardware >> Controllers.
  2. Locate the Entraguard controller and use the controller's Action menu (located on the right) to select Edit.

  3. The controller properties will appear.
  4. Scroll down the properties until you locate the Entraguard Properties.

    - The Entraguard Platinum controller has a larger LCD screen that can display two different font sizes. The default is set for the large size. However, if the small size font would be preferred as the default, it may be changed through the reset menu. See the instructions below:

  5. Click the SAVE button to commit any changes.

8.0 Entraguard Platinum LCD Display Setup

The EntraGuard LCD (located on the front of the Entraguard Platinum controller) is capable of using two different font sizes. The default is set for the large size. However, if the small size font would be preferred as the default, it may be changed through the controller menu.

  1. Power up the Entraguard with the S1 button held-down.
  2. The controller menu will appear.
  3. Select 5 on the keypad to change the default font size. The Set Font Default Menu appears.
  4. Press 1 to make the default font small.
  5. Press 2 to make the default font large.

Note: Users may temporarily change the font size when using the Entraguard Platinum
controller, but any changes made will always return to the default as selected here.
